Accident!

I haven't blogged for about a month but I have been doing some running and it has mainly been free of knee/calf/ankle pain, so am very happy!  I have been mainly running on the gym treadmill for safety, but I have started running outside and all is well.  I even did 19k or so outside last Thursday, so was very pleased that it was with no pain!  Today, the plan in my half-marathon training plan was for easy running, then four 8s sprints (fartlek) then easy running, then three 9:30m medium pace stints (intervals) with some walking afterwards, and then gentle running at the end.  The medium pace bits were aimed to be well below 5k pace, so I thought it was an easily achievable plan!  I was very wrong!  The gentle running was obviously no problem, and the fartlek was ok even if my sprinting wasn't so fast, but it was decent!!  But the intervals were much harder than I expected.  I was supposed to do each 9:30m stint at a power of between 269 and 274 watts.  That is well below my 5k pace, and should have been no problem.  But my first 9:30m was at 252w which is well below target.   And then it got worse with the second interval being at 239w, which is nowhere near the target!  And for the final interval I was running very gently at around 225w, which on the flat terrain was about 6:00m per km, so well below the planned power and very slow!!  But despite good weather, flat terrain, no people or dogs or twigs or stones or anything, I somehow fell about 3:30m into that final interval!!  I don't remember ever falling when running, and there was no reason, so I am baffled, but it is what it is!!  I fell on my left side and skinned my knee and calf and landed on my arm/shoulder and hit my head.  Luckily all on my left side, so no injury to my already injured head, as that injury is on the right side.  Phew!!  I always thought running was pretty safe post-TBI, but now I'm not so sure, but I guess I just have to be a bit more careful!!  In the end it was 8.65km at a slow pace of 5:38m/km which is not much tbh, but it's time on legs, so all good!!  My left ankle is now pretty sore, but my guess is it will be fine in a day or two!! ๐Ÿคž
