Parkrun PB: 22:14

My parkrun PB has been 22:26 since the 3rd of June 2023!!  I clearly haven't exactly been tearing it up on parkruns over the last 15 months!!  And I haven't written anything for this blog in the last four months or so, but nothing unusual has happened in my running world in that time.  But last year I said I would blog every time I managed to get a new PB, and, finally, today is the day!  The improvement was only 12s but it's still an improvement, so I am very pleased.  Also, in January I moved to Manchester, and that means all my parkruns this year have been in Manchester.  Today the location of my overall PB moved from Penrith to Manchester - end of an era😁.  I have been getting close to a PB recently, and today the weather was chilly but nice, so it was a good day to attempt a PB.  I usually do Alexandra Parkrun in Manchester and today was no exception!  I was 87th today, and being in the top 100 at Alexandra is unusual for me!!  It's a fast course and there are typically upwards of 500 people doing it.  Because I wanted to aim at a PB today I started a bit closer to the front than my normal.  That's because if you start half way or further back, the first 500m or so is half walking, and that can take a while.  Starting nearer the front meant the start was quite quick and a PB always looked likely if I could keep going.  And I could!  I am currently training for the Manchester Half Marathon which is in two weeks, and yesterday was my final long run.  That was 19km, and I thought that effort might stop me getting a PB today.  But it doesn't seem to have a negative impact - yay!!  It's getting towards winter weather now, and I am still very much a fair weather runner due to the bumped head.  Not sure if there will be many parkruns for me over the next few months, but we'll see.  I have a treadmill at home now, which means I can train through the winter without joining a gym😁.  I guess the plan is to mainly train on the treadmill over the next few months and then break 22m for a parkrun in the Spring.  The best laid plans...  That's all for now, but if I remember, I will write up how I get on at the Manchester Half Marathon on the 13th of October!!  I am hoping for about one hour fifty, but anything under two hours will be a result!!  That half marathon is really training for next April's Manchester Marathon😨!!  Cheers!
